Duncan's Lakefront Caravan Park The Entrance - Central Coast NSW |
|
| We hadn't visited The Entrance for over thirty years and tried booking ahead the night before. OK so it was 9 PM, but most parks wouldn't even answer the phone. Next day we arrived at The Entrance and started looking. The first couple were an absolute disaster - how on earth can you call a park "Tourist" when it is full of dilapidated old grotty looking vans? So we headed down along the lakeside and found some more promising locations. A lovely lass at Paradise Cabins pointed us in the direction of Duncan's. Isn't it wonderful when you pull up in front of a place and you get those fantastic welcoming vibes? The owner was on the driving end of a whipper snipper tidying up the already immaculate grounds! Sites aren't numbered and you get good old fashioned service from the owners - they walk you round the park to show you the options. A lovely touch you just don't come across too often these days. On our visit near Xmas only two sites were free. The park was being mowed at the time and one site was yet to be done. So what do they do? Drop everything and mow both sites for us. There are 114 sites all up with mostly holiday vans and the grounds are absolutely immaculate and lush green grass is everywhere. The park is right on the water and the views are lovely. Drinking water is good. Most sites have shade and are drive-thru. Very quiet park away from the main road which equates to blissfully peaceful nights, but with most things within easy walking distance, and a two minute car trip to the nearest major shopping centre. |

The amenities blocks tell you so much about the management of a park. First up there were no nasty bleeding obvious type signs all over the place. There was a beautifully engraved tile above the gents urinal. Please do not drop your butts in the trough as it makes them soggy and hard to light! |

The sign says it all! |
Is this fantastic or what? |
| The amenities are finished in yellow shades which dates them, but what the heck! They are spotless and because of this you find yourself leaving them cleaner than your own bathroom at home. There are some nice touches too. Right and left hand toilet roll holders and you wont find a spider web anywhere. Another huge plus is heaps of hot water without those dreadful water savers and even hot air hand dryers. Of course everything is tiled and not a sign of vandalism anywhere. A great idea is foot baths outside both the amenity blocks. Plenty of free hot water in spotless laundry tubs. The drying areas are fenced in nice lattice the same as the bulk garbage areas. We loved the sails over the community meeting area. Rather an odd one though was no community BBQ. Telstra GSM and CDMA phones work fine. |

Amenities and laundry complex - excellent! |

This is bike riders paradise with excellent bike tracks that meander for miles in just about total safety. Accolades of praise must go to the vision of the local very active council! Beach lovers paradise also with Toowoon Bay about 3 minutes away. Picnic Point is a great spot for a leisurely fish and chips lunch. The lovely pelican photo at the top of this page was taken there just after sunrise. You can walk from Duncan's all the way to Picnic Point on excellent paths and it is an extremely scenic walk with no horrible hills! We actually took a fruit breakfast with us and had it with the Pelicans - change that to "shared it" with the Pelicans. The nearest major shopping centre at the Entrance is a nightmare if you are towing and we suggest you try to shop with just the tow vehicle. The whole area had a lovely feel about it and we really enjoyed our stay. It would have been a different story though if we hadn't found Duncan's as the first three parks we visited as mentioned previously although near the water were atrocious! You wont find Duncan's listed in the RACQ Accommodation Guide which is a shame. On talking to Jeff the owner, we found that they don't need to advertise as word of mouth keeps the park almost full at all times. It is a fair way in from the highway and we got lost a couple of times! Take the Wyong exit off the freeway but watch out as there are heaps. You need the Cobbs Road exit as it turns into Wyong Road and is the most direct route - we missed this and got in a huge knot travelling through Wyong via a trillion round-a-bouts! We used the excellent NRMA map NSW Touring Map 4. The best way to navigate is as soon as you pass Long Jetty go down to the waterfront and follow the lake shore. On our map when you click on the compass just follow the blue line. More info on (02) 4332 0287 or write to Jeff at Duncan's Lakefront Park, 4 Toowoon Bay Road, Long Jetty, 2261. Best of all though was the low fee. Only $18 for a lakeside powered site and nice and spacious as well. (December 2000) We can't give this park enough praise - absolutely recommended - it is fantastic and ideal for an extended stay! |
