Installing a Safety Chain Holder |
![]() |
This is a 5 minute project using stock materials! Safety Chains dangling on the ground allow easy access for ants. This simple solution uses a bit from a Zenith Gate Latch costing around $4.15 from most hardware shops. To fit it all you need is two self drilling metal thread screws.
|
| If you have a hexagon socket to fit your electric drill it takes seconds. Use slow speed. If not use a normal drill and use a spanner. The photo shows what metal screws look like. Note the drill points. You need ones 25mm long. You can get these at Bunnings for $6.50 for 25. |

A tiny bit of soap on the threads makes life easier. You only need to put one on your A'van. Make sure it won't foul sway bars, load levellers etc. The part of the latch we use has a lovely rounded end, so even if you bump it you wont cut legs etc. It is also heavy zinc plated so it wont rust and as supplied it matches the A'van. Ours came from Bunnings and cost $4.14. We also got the screws at Bunnings as they sell them loose for 35cents each. |
