Highway Wanderers

We stumbled on this fascinating site whilst researching mail forwarding. It's all about motorhomers who have sold up the family home and permanently live in their house on wheels - true "grey nomads". Lots of excellent information and a great source of info for those thinking of taking the plunge and adopting this form of lifestyle whether it be in a motorhome or caravan. We particularly liked reading some of the philosophies. We liked this one:-  Obviously, we still have family connections and friends, some of us have houses or even businesses to worry about, but the lifestyle is about living for the day. It was also an eye opener revealing lots of problems we had never ever thought about, as our society only recognises those with a fixed address.

In our opinion it is a good move to follow what is going on in the motorhome world, as they tend to seek out and find a huge number of free camping sites far better in fact than any guide we have ever come across! A really wonderful idea used by this chapter is the "who is where section". As most of the members are continuously on the road this list gives a rough idea of who is where at any time of the year. The main body of the club has 24,000 members.  Anyway we urge you to take a peek at the site as it is a lot of fun. You can also do as we have done and subscribed to their free email newsletter - lots of tips in there and it comes out every couple of weeks.

They also run their own personal pages and we came across this little WORRYING gem in the diary section - "we went to Centrelink to find out why our pensions have been cancelled. It appears that we had been misled about the asset limit and that, because we haven't bought a house within twelve months of selling the last one, we wont be eligible for any pension for quite a while. One thing working against us is that the value of the principal place of residence is not included in the asset test - except when it is a motorhome". Makes you think doesn't it?
