There has to be a market for this product! Anything that tells you that a tyre is low on air or worse still, flat has to be a good thing. Ask anyone who has had a tyre turn into spaghetti! Aussie Tow Mate is an Australian invention. It is essentially a small monitor assembly that plugs into your lighter socket. The flat detector can deflect 90 degrees and is made of spring steel. It simply clamps near the stub axle. One earth return travels from the van up to this gadget. To test if it is working you simply press a switch and a light comes on. If something is amiss a red light flashes as well as an audible buzzer sounds. The unit costs $159 for two wheel protection. It can also be modified to include monitoring of doors. You put a reed switch on the fridge etc. This can be done by surface mounting with double sided tape or concealed mounting. The switches appear to be the very reliable reed type using magnets to actuate. Other monitors can run on the same line - a temperature sensor on the wheel hubs etc. ($60) Another good idea is an extra gadget that detects if your plug has fallen out, ($30)  It appears that it only tells you there is a fault - NOT the exact fault area. Not really a problem, as you would stop no matter what it is. You can buy a cigarette lighter double adaptor if for instance you want to run your mobile phone as just about most of us do. We did not receive any actual wiring details in the otherwise excellent info pack we received for review. No mention is made of how it gets to the van, only that the wire is an earth return.
