Jayco Owners Club

Used with permission of Jayco Australia 29/5/01

As this months A-Competition was won by Jayco Camper owner Karen Mabey, and there is lots in this section on overseas clubs, we thought we might have a look at just what the biggest caravan club in Australia gets up to.  The club has been going a very long time and has quite a nice internet site at  www.jayco.com.au/club.html. There is a link to each State's own Chapter and lots of good photos of members having fun doing what we all enjoy doing most in our spare time. Their Mission Statement (below) really sums up what being in a caravan club is all about.

"It's a sad fact that many owners don't get the best value out of their caravan simply because they don't use them often enough.

Jayco Owners Club members will tell you that belonging to the club have helped them to get the most out of their investment in a most enjoyable way. At the same time they have also expanded their circle of friends and improved their caravanning skills.

If you enjoy caravanning, good company, great times, relaxing, BBQ's, fishing, golfing the odd meal and a yarn around the campfire, a snooze in the sun, why not join you're states Jayco Owners Club".

At present their site is far more organised than ours, as they are looking ahead rally wise a whole year in all states, making it easy to pencil in a note in your diary. An excellent idea also, is that of having extended 2 week rallies  - Tasmania, Broken Hill and Central Australia etc. A very good idea for attracting members is you can attend the your first two rallies before paying your membership dues. Over the coming months we will look at other clubs in Australia as we can all learn from one another - as we said before, to heck with worrying about brands etc. Sadly though very few Australian clubs have an internet presence, so we will have to use snail mail to find out more about each one!  In the meantime if you have a bit of spare time you might like to have a look at a page called Australian Caravan Touring. This is an excellent independent resource like us, and covers a lot of areas our site hasn't got around to thinking about yet. The cute little graphic at the end of this article came from their site!

Humourous sign found on the CMOA site!

The Campervan & Motorhome Club of Australia have an excellent site with a lot of useful touring info. Of most interest to those on a budget is a down loadable list of Free Camping sites. Only CMCA club members can access this, but what a great idea! On a humour page there is a real gem about the disaster of being a DIY enthusiast, as most of us are! Brilliant stuff! A shame all the site information can't be shared, but this is understandable as fees are $44.00 per year - you can't access their newsletter for instance, but for non-members you can access approximately half the site to give you a "taste" for this kind of lifestyle. Very good advice on insurance too. The confusing sign above came from their site. The newsletter called "The Wanderer" is the best club publication we have ever come across in Australia. It is in full colour and printed on A4 size. It is totally free to members (27,000 of them!) and is apparently  financed via the advertising revenue and overall is a jolly good read.

They used to have a page called Dragnet. Bit frightening this one, as it listed and pictured many of the rigs currently stolen in Australia - an absolutely brilliant idea though and something well worthwhile us thinking about if A'van theft increases. Could anyone who has had an A'van stolen please tell us the outcome, particularly if it has been recovered or not? Does Jeff Vanbaardwyck have any figures on this? In view of Dragnet we suggest you all read A'van Club member  Brian Louer's timely warning about A'van security on A-Clinic  May 2001. Some of the ideas put forward are well thought out, very sound and not too expensive. It's so easy to say, gosh I'm insured so why worry!
