Penguin NSW Road Directory - Review

The concept of this directory is good and there is a real need for such a publication and some camping guides use it as a reference - Boiling Billies Camping Guide to NSW etc. It is A4 and has a good durable cover, but sadly it is printed overseas. Basically it takes the form of a road atlas with the addition of actual street maps of each town. We bought this book with the sole aim of reducing the amount of loose maps we carry around with us. Sadly this directory doesn't take the place of either Hema or NRMA maps. The biggest problem is that the maps are all from 1997 and most are way out of date. A few examples - the road from Bombah Point to Mungo Brush is shown as dirt and the ferry isn't even mentioned. South Ballina doesn't get a mention yet there are two really good parks there. They only use the caravan symbols on the street maps. Penguin do have a web site at www.penguin.com.au, but there is less information there than what we have given you here and nobody else seems to have reviewed the directory. It desperately needs an update! Ours came from World Wide Maps and Guides in Brisbane. RRP $40.00. Let us know if you find it useful.
