Hema Australian Road Atlas

In 2002 we will be using map references on all stories keyed to the excellent Hema Australian Road Atlas. Most magazines such as On The Road, and camping guides coming out such as Phil Proctor's Camps Australia Wide, Boiling Billy etc. either use this book or Penguin and we will be "going with the flow"! Now a bit of "buyer beware stuff"! There are THREE Hema Atlases, two of them are A4 and this one is the larger easier to read B4. Obviously this hasn't a hope of fitting into your glove box, but this is really only a minor detail really. We were particularly impressed with the clear and concise layout of the National Parks Directory at the front of the atlas. We had no idea how lucky we are in Queensland with the most parks by a huge margin of any state in Australia. If you are buying a Hema product for use with other camping guides be aware that generic versions such as the magnificent Steve Parish one will NOT link up with the map references even though the maps appear to be the same. This is a bit of a shame as the photos are utterly fantastic. Sadly you cannot buy directly online from Hema and we tried for half an hour to order from a reseller but it wasn't to be! Maybe Hema should think about selling online? Ours came from Queensland Maps at Garden City in Brisbane $23.95. We absolutely recommend this shop if you are passing through Brisbane - wonderfully helpful. Hema have a nice website on www.hemamaps.com/ Hema is undoubtedly the best Australian Road Atlas money can buy. We absolutely recommend it and the price is right.
