The Wanderer Magazine

The Wanderer is a monthly full colour, 85 glossy page, A4 size magazine published by the largest RV club in Australia the CMCA which stands for Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia. Up until a few months ago the magazine was entirely self funded - no mean feat without going overboard with advertising. You can't buy the book without becoming a member of the club - $44.00 per year. Current membership stands at 27,000 and it is increasing at the astounding rate of 500 per month. You can become an associate member without owning a motorhome and receive the magazine - 12 issues a year so it represents terrific value. The CMCA run their club completely differently than the A'van club. Formation of district chapters is actively encouraged and to stop these becoming bogged down in red tape or members being forced to follow the whims or various "Presidents" they use a system of hosting. At chapter rallies two/four members "host" that event for that meeting only. Next rally sees a different group take control providing new ideas etc. A great system that really works. So what the magazine is all about is listing the previous months events, publishing members travel yarns, lots of technical info and a small amount of reviews. All in all it is a very good read and of interest to all RV'ers. The tips on free camping, good suppliers and places to avoid is priceless information. It would have to be one of the most professionally put together magazines in Australia if not the world. Absolutely recommended.
