Caravan World Magazine - Review

Caravan World and Outdoor life is without doubt Australia's premier caravan magazine and has been going for a very impressive 31 years. It's a bit like your favourite slippers - you feel right at home and comfy as soon as you turn the first page. Unlike Australia's other caravanning magazines, Caravan World covers all the bases and has a dedicated team of specialists on board. We all have our favourites and being born sticky beaks we head straight to Post Bag for all the latest gossip! Next it's off to the very knowledgeable Tom Olthoff's, Caravan Clinic. Tom is absolutely fantastic with "newbies" and his explanations and all his answers are very clear and concise without being "waffly". Tom would arguably be the top towing technician in Australia and you may notice we suggest many readers contact him in A-Forum. usually on all the questions that are too hard for us! For a good belly laugh we turn to the great really Australian column On The Wallaby by Lionel Mussell. If you enjoy Lionel's unique writing style he has reproduced many of his columns on a very good travel site he calls Caravanning in Australia. He updates the site on a regular basis.

Looking at the contents page makes us positively green with envy as just about every topic a caravanner wants to bone up on is in there. Last year they started a brilliant photography section. Caravan Cook has lots of easy to prepare meals and it's all in glorious colour. We actually only beat them in the one area - our Craft Section! Oh dear! Old timers will remember we used to write a lot of the DIY articles and The Big One series, for long term editor Gwen Haslar. Ah, those were the days - no colour except the cover. Ouch! There is a special pull out section called Motorhome World and this caters for an otherwise neglected group even though they managed to get 800 RV's in the one spot at their annual rally in Griffith NSW. The present Editor Joan Green has done a fantastic job of giving the magazine a really modern look and feel. We would venture to say it truly is a world class publication which is why you will find so many references to it on this site. Anyway, it's a darn good read so all we can say is you can't go wrong buying it each month or taking out a subscription. There is a huge drawback though - it is a definite WEIGHT HAZARD as you tend to want to take all the back issues with you on the road!
