VicRoads Dedicated Caravan Site

What a superb initiative by VicRoads. This site is ideal for those taking up caravanning for the first time as well as the "old hands" seeking to bone up on any new regulations. It certainly doesn't feel like your typical government site as it is written in easy to understand language. It starts off with the history of caravanning in Australia and ends up with an excellent explanation of suitable tow vehicles and covers hitching in fine details even to the extent of supplying pictures of various rigs. In a word - excellent!

Well worth while looking at - you can get more information on this excellent page on:-

www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/road_safe/safe_first/caravanning.htm

For further information on towing, pick up a copy of the VicRoads brochure titled 'Towing Trailers - a brief guide to the law and safe towing'. The brochure is available from VicRoads offices or the VicRoads Bookshop (ph 03 9854 2782). Also check the vehicle standards information sheets number 9 'Registration requirements for light trailers manufactured before July 1991' (June 1998) and number 26 'Roadworthiness Requirements' (June 1998), also available from VicRoads offices or from the VicRoads Bookshop.
