What is actually happening here is the unit has an inverter built in so that the unit is actually working on 115 volt AC. On the other hand being an American product this does mean you could import it and it would work in Australia. The unit provides 6000 BTUs of real cooling, 2 fans and cooling speeds and an alarm sounds to warn of low battery voltage. Adjustable louvers let you send the air where you need it. If you go to this alternate site www.sierrasolar.com/ssstore/NeltronAC.htm the price quoted is a much more manageable US$517.00. The photos appear to be identical. The Sierra site has lots of other solar and 12 volt goodies and is definitely worth a visit.
