The Ultimate Free Camping Guide

Marc Glasby of the converted Bedford bus fame has made up an online Free Camping Guide. Unlike the excellent restricted version put out by the Camper and Motorhome Club of Australia this one is completely free and is very easy to print out for use on the road. At present it lists over 2,100 campsites and has the huge advantage in that it is updated on a regular basis. Many of the spots are described on Marcs website and some have photos to fire you up. We particularly liked his descriptions of Cleaverville near Karratha in Western Australia. Don't forget that this type of work depends on all of us emailing Marc with updates and letting him know about new sites.

For those pushed for time or without a printer, Marc also has a greatly expanded 131 page printed and bound version for sale for $19.95 by writing to Marc at the address below - no credit card facilities though. The book is called Camping Australia. This so far as we know it is the largest list available in Australia and is also very useful for overseas visitors as you only need the one book. You can view a sample page by clicking on the graphic of the book at the start of this article. As with all these guides it is a good idea to check that things haven't changed when you get near an area as councils etc. are forever altering the rules and moving the goal posts for free camping. Anyway, the address for ordering by cheque or money order is:-

Outback Bound
79 Carisbrooke Street
Maddington
W.A. 6109

Marc has put an enormous amount of time and effort into his site so please write in and give him the encouragement to keep it up by emailing  mgglasby@hotmail.com. Below is the first few entries in the Free Online version for Queensland.
