From the outset let us make it perfectly clear that we think these books are absolutely fantastic and anyone thinking of travelling in Western Australia would be well advised to obtain a copy. We can't praise these books enough. The price is unbelievably cheap. We paid just $7.70 a copy at the recent Brisbane Caravan and Camping show. Each one has a full colour gloss cover and all the pages are gloss paper as well which means grub wont mark the pages - great for those that eat nibblies whilst navigating - who me? The mud maps are very well done and super clear and readable.

Unlike other guides we have come across these really concentrate on those campsites that are totally free. The prices for the few "minimal fee" camps listed is not quoted. Pets are permitted at just about ALL locations which is rather good as Travelling with Dogs mentions none of the places! Here are a couple of random examples from the North book.

54. Old Well Site (Bush Camp)

On North west Coastal Highway, 30 kms north of Fortescue River, take the road on the left to the Fortescue River mouth. One km along this road there is a track on the left. This leads to a pool on the creek and a small cleared area near the old well. A good overnight stop.

55. Fortescue River Mouth (Authorised)

From the Old Well site, it is another 23 kms along the good unsealed road. After 17.3 kms cross Du Boulay Creek - drive through the first shallow section, then follow the track to your right along the middle of the creek to get back out onto the road. It is 21.8 kms to the river. Camp here close to the boat launch or continue on the main track to the camping area. Plenty of driftwood for fires. Rubbish bins.
