| Anyone thinking about travelling out there on the red dirt
can't go wrong making this excellent book their bible. First up there is
just nothing like it available. Author Lloyd Juror is a very experienced
caravanner and 4WD expedition leader. He regularly runs Tag-Along tours.
The photos above taken from the book shows what this is all about - a great way for
beginners to gain confidence and learn the ropes almost painlessly. Great
for all the worriers amongst us! As can be seen from the photo his
tours are suitable for even 2WD ordinary ground clearance vehicles and
even motorhomes. The book is a whopping 272 pages, is strongly bound and durably covered and easy on the eyes A4-size with a flexible cover - about the best in the business- and it has 590 full colour photos - something of a record for an RV publication. This is supplemented by double page large print maps of routes across the Australian Outback. Very sensibly all the mapping has been trialled on older and even colour-blind persons to ensure highest legibility - that's us folks! The routes are classified in 3 levels - as bitumen roads, earth roads suitable for 2WD cars, caravans and motorhomes, or roads suited to 4WD vehicles and off the bitumen caravans. Special attention has been paid to the provision of facilities used by caravanners, and the maps and map notes detail such items as mobile phone coverage areas, availability of medical services and availability of groceries and full banking services exactly the info we try to put in all our travel stories. We heard a whisper that the maps are getting an award. It is wonderful to actually buy a book that you don't have to spend a frustrating half an hour wrestling with contact paper to stop your new book disintegrating. Can other guide book/map publishers perhaps take note? The book goes one step further than all others and includes an excellent section of plant and fauna identification - most in full colour - a lovely surprise. The blurb on their internet page sums it all up quite well. Caravanning Outback Australia is the first in a series of carefully researched and authoritatively produced books designed specifically for the recreation vehicle, caravan and camping market. A full year in preparation, and based on combined experience of more than 60 years of Outback travelling and tour guiding, Caravanning Outback Australia is destined to become the indispensable companion for anyone interested in Outback travel.
