The Latest A'van in Australia

Many of us are faced with the quandary of where do we go, once we outgrow our trusty A'liner. Up until now the only solution offered by A'van was the 17 foot Tayla or Marion pop top. Now these look and feel like a big van. Most of us into A'liners like the compactness and easy tow capabilities. A'van have very cleverly come up with an excellent compromise, just as innovative as the A'liner. The Ray Poptop tows small, yet camps large! How is this done? It uses a gadget called a "slide out". These have been around on $200,000.00 motorhomes for yonks, but are unheard of on production run caravans. The complete rear bedroom section "slides" back inside the van for travelling. Now don't confuse this with what other manufacturers are doing with canvas - there isn't any canvas here at all and you don't need to mess about with braces or poles to support it. A'van in the States have a sort of similar idea in the A-Cabin mentioned on these pages a few months ago. The Ray quick frankly makes the USA idea look positively old fashioned. There are links on the A-Dealer page to a very extensive review done by Caravan World.

UPDATE 8/7/02

Y'all got me curious, so I took a closer look than the quick skim I did before. Anyone interested in A-frames should see this site! They really take it to another level. Anyone see the A'van Ray? Not an A-frame, but certainly better than any small, standard trailer I've seen here. Take the A-frames out of the American trailer market and it's pretty stale. Thanks for the heads up!
