A'van Australia News

A'van in the past have been a wee bit slow to adapt to a changing markets and in particular to suggestions made by users. Things are so much different now what with competition and of course the fantastic feedback they receive from users from this website and the user groups in the USA. On a recent visit to Brisbane by the production manager Scott Van Baardwyck we were shown some of the exciting new features. First up the chip board floors have been replaced with a more durable structural material. Chipboard is also slowly being phased out for all cupboard tops etc. which is wonderful news.  We were shown the newest pop top tables made from two pieces of ply finished off very neatly with a beautifully moulded edge with an oiled surface. The cushions in A'liners now has quite posh looking "buttoning" on all the cushions.

The Arlec converters have been replaced with a more compact unit in a black moulded plastic case with lots of ventilation slots. Only time will tell if this is a good move as the new unit has no heat sink. The one we saw was mounted at floor level in the corner of the locker to the right of the sink. Zero problems if nothing is dumped on top, but we heard this week of a similarly mounted unit in the States (see the Bob Hoffman story on this page) failing because the airflow was obstructed. Scott told us they had made the change because there was only one Arlec converter service agent in Australia. Gone too is the LED display lights. And last but not least the dreaded battery box has been replaced with a simple to remove unit - a big step forward and most welcome by all the DIY people who dabble in the 12 volt electrics. For those not in the know, the old box was installed before the walls went up and had a screwed on lid making removal a dreadfully tedious task and one usually delegated to little lady because of smaller fingers - or should that read more patience!
