Queensland A'vanners 2002 Christmas Party

The last few days are just simply a blur. We never got to bed until just before midnight and were up again around 6.00am. It was "full on" the entire time. We both need another holiday.

The day we arrived Evan & Gayle the Park Owners had a Sausage Sizzle to celebrate the finishing of their new open hall. The last time Ian and I were at Crows Nest the new hall was being built. It certainly made a good venue to hold the various functions. Those that could not fit in the new hall itself could just sit around outside and still be part of the celebrations.

For this time of the year, the weather was quite cool at night.  That is why you can see a sprinkling of people with long sleeves and light jumpers in some of the evening photos. The days were hot but nowhere near as bad as this time last year at Crows Nest.

Today is an absolute stinker here.  I have been putting the last of the washing on the clothes line to dry and the pavers are red hot under foot.  It would be quite hot out Toowoomba/Crows Nest today.

The Xmas Party on Saturday night was excellent.  There were 76 A'vans.  And 80 were booked to arrive.  So 4 did not make it for whatever reason.

Gayle catered for 200 people. There was a Pig On The Spit and other assortments of hot meats, including all the hot vegetables, sauces and relishes. Salad too for those that wished those.

The Dessert was heavenly. Bombe Alaska, Jelly, Custard, Sponges, Trifles and heaps of other things.

Everything was so light to eat. Even after a huge meal, you did not feel stodgy.

We also had Champagne Breakfasts which merged into Lunch and then Dinner.

Laugh...........I have never laughed so much in my life. My face hurt from all the laughing.

There were celebrations in Crows Nest township also over the weekend.  We walked down to that and joined in the festivities there.

Sunday and then again on Monday a group of us drove 30 kilometres or so to the Goombungee Hotel for lunch.  I had fish each day because it was so good. Better fish than what I have ever had here right on the Coast.

The photos you can see of our table were taken inside the old wooden hall. As you can see that was absolutely full and the outside new open hall is larger in area again, and was full also.

The A'van Xmas function was held in the hall last year. There is absolutely no way everybody would have fitted inside this year. That will give you an idea of how the Club is growing in the 2 years it has been operating.

There was a Country and Western Singer at some of the functions. A very enjoyable entertainer.

We took some coloured flashing lights and a star to adorn the front of our A'van. You can see them in some of the photos. It was a handy beacon late at night, when we were "stepping high" coming back to have a sleep after all the festivities of the day were over.

The next Queensland A'van Meet is in February at Stanthorpe. Gayle & Evan at Crows Nest are having their Annual Truck/Machinery Show over the same weekend. Ian and I will be going to Crows Nest rather than Stanthorpe.

A couple of weeks later the New South Wales A'van Club are having a Meet at Nambucca Heads. We are going to that one, so missing the Stanthorpe one is no big deal.

Hope you enjoy the photos.
