First USA A'van Gathering at Mammoth Pennsylvania Laurel Highlands Campground |
| The A'van Club of Australia are truly lucky to have the
total support of Jeff behind us! The following message sampling has been taken from the
only
message
board in the States where A'vans have a bit of a presence.
The entire board is on one page and is a good read and gives an insight
into A'vanning in the States. It shows how long it took to
organise the first rally - coming off in June 2001 at the
Laurel
Highlands Campground, and what happened
before they got factory support.
Date Posted: Oct 08, 2000 4:44 PM I've been contacted by an A'liner owner in NC who appears interested in have an owner's get-together. I don't mind being the point-of-contact for this. Is there anyone who would like to help, or has done something like it in the past who could provide guidance? What time of year is best? Should we have it near the factory or somewhere else? What are your ideas? Please let me know via this website or email me direct at gadillon@earthlink.net If it's ever going to happen someone (read me) needs to get moving. Thanks. |

These are USA A'vans and it's fascinating to look at the minor design differences. They have a few bed options not currently available in Australia. Some are made of steel and fold out. |

Date Posted: Oct 09, 2000 8:05 PM Louisville, KY, USA Ginny, My wife Debby and I are interested in the rally and in the interest Mr. Tait mentioned to you,,,namely sharing ideas on the use and set up of our A' liners. I would be glad to help out. I would suggest: 1. Continue to work very closely with the factory contact and to hold it near there if they are interested in having us in their neighbourhood. Frankly, this may start something in the area of customer relations for A'liner if they knew the owners were interested in dialoguing or conversing with them at the factory...touring etc. 2. I would suggest a two day and two night gathering tops. I suppose for some the best time would be on a weekend. For me personally, during the week would be fine. I am open. Late April or early May is one window of time that occurs to me.... Late May is graduation and Memorial Day conflicts. Early June begins another window called summer. I think if we suggest March or Early April we may find some people not wanting to winter camp that much. Just my initial thoughts. 3. Arrive nite #1, (having chosen a camp ground and arranged a gathering point) check in. First morning meet together, tour the plant and schmooze with the company folks and new products.... Perhaps have a potluck meal back at the camp ground in a common room or building? Day two more informal visiting...perhaps some will have to leave.... nite two???? Leave next day. Depending on turnout and interest make some plans at the potluck about another gathering, and needs that could be met by such a group in an ongoing way. Invite some plant reps to eat with us? That's what I humbly submit at this point. Let's talk calendar. I know I cannot go Holy Week, nor can I go the last weekend of April. Peter Vial |

Peter, You have some great ideas. Time of the week is not an issue with me as I'm in the Air Force and can schedule leave any time with the concurrence of my supervisor. Time of year is a concern if we gather near the factory. I looked it up on the map and Mammoth is SE of Pittsburgh in Westmoreland County. I'm not so concerned about cold temperatures as I am about spring snow events. I think early May is a good time. I like your suggested events too. I emailed Betsy Griffin at A'liner about getting a listing of customers, and if that's not possible, about sending fliers to the dealers and asking them to notify their customers. I also asked if the company wanted to be officially involved. I think visits with company reps and a tour of the factory are excellent ideas. I asked for the names of the campgrounds nearby so I can check them out. I wouldn't mind going up there on a weekend as it's only about a 3.5 hr drive from where I live (a bit longer if towing the trailer). Please keep the ideas coming. For everyone, what do you think of these ideas? What time of year and days of the week do you prefer? Please let me know via this forum or you can email me directly at gadillon@earthlink.net. Thanks. Anyway, there are over 20 pages of messages if you print them out, and sadly the contact factory lass Betsy, left and failed to tell anyone about the rally! Anyone can read the messages by the way, it's how the Internet works - sharing knowledge. Eventually things got sorted out and the factory then got behind the idea and gave it 101% support, even to the stage of booking the park and offering to supply cooking gear. They hope to get 50 vans attending - now that's way under what Brendon and Jeff achieved. The USA Club wished Australia well for the Pambula event. The Internet sure conquers distance and widens ones circle of good friends! |
