Outside Lockers Mk 2

This in a variation of the Peter & Angela Watkins idea. Brian Hawkins has taken another approach. The lockers have no tops and screw directly into the floor of the A'van using wood screws. This method avoids the possible hazard of water getting trapped between the top of the locker and the underside of the floor. The photo shows the locker ready for installation. Brian cleverly used his jack to hold it in position whilst he screwed it up using dome headed coach bolts. Better than arguing with the little lady!

The boxes are 12" deep and 7" high. This is 1" below the stabiliser and 1" higher than the axle. The theory is - if the box doesn't clear the "rocks" then the axle wont either. The 20mm aluminium angle on the back butts up against the stabiliser - use a long screwdriver. The front is about 3/4" from the side of the van. The door needs to be about 1/8" narrower to allow it to clear the aluminium edge on the van. The 20mm angle was pop riveted along the top edges and pre-drilled for the attaching screws. The box is tall enough to fit in a billycan. Thanks Brian.

UPDATE: Outside Lockers Mk 2

Hold fire on starting this project, as Brian and Jackie have spent HOURS making excellent high quality drawings of how to do this project at home with just a jigsaw, a pop rivet gun, a hacksaw  and a drill. This will be in Adobe Acrobat format for you to download. Now if you haven't got Adobe bla bla! we suggest you buy any computer mag with a CD on the front and copy it onto your computer as they instruct. Then when you click on young Hawkey's masterpiece it will automatically open Acrobat Reader and you can print it in high quality. The Hawkins have also sent good photos BUT this Show & Tell page desperately needs the Jenny Craig treatment as it is already up to 440 seconds download, so they can't possibly go in this month. Email Bob if you have troubles installing Adobe - it will ALREADY be on most computers.
