Bed Cushion Retainers

The double bed mattress in the Sportliner is made up of the long rear seat cushion, the seat cushion next to the fridge, the seat cushion over the nearside wheel arch and the two seat backs placed on the lowered table. From experience, we find it best to make up the bed before leaving home, then folding back the "outer half" bedding over the "inner half" rear seat. The table can then be raised for travelling or daytime use. At bed time, it is just a matter of lowering the table, placing the two cushion backs on the table, folding the bedding back over the four seat cushions, and tucking in. That is the theory! In practice however (particularly if one or both occupants are restless sleepers), the two smaller cushions and the cushion over the wheel arch can slide out, leaving a "Grand Canyon" between you and your partner! One solution which works well for us is to make a calico "sleeve" which wraps around the full bed width and holds the offending cushions to the long rear cushion.

The sleeve has a length of Velcro hook strip sewn along one edge and the mating Velcro loop strip sewn along the joining edge. The sleeve need not be over the full length of the bed - just sufficient to hold the three outer cushions. The cushion on the seat next to the fridge is held in place by the cupboard. The sleeve is placed in position before the remainder of the bedding.

NB: According to the source of all knowledge on these matters, the calico should be washed before cutting to size and sewing. This stuff apparently shrinks like crazy when first washed!
