Setting Up -Adjusting the Stays

Carrying 3X2 inside the leg is not as good on sand and wet surfaces as flat plywood but it still is a good move.

Let's get something out of the way first. The stays are designed to steady your camper NOT LEVEL IT! They are not designed to take the weight of the van and will eventually FAIL if you continually do this. Never ever use them to jack up the van if you have a flat tyre. The A'van manual explains this in great detail. We suggest getting your van level using the techniques outlined in Setting Up and Leveling above, and then lower the stays just enough to touch the ground firmly. On soft ground use a scrap of plywood to stop the foot sinking as we did with the jockey wheel. If you are not too adverse to bending down you can actually store a small piece of timber inside the stay itself. Invented by a fellow "silver haired gypsy".
