Illness on the Road |
![]() |
| Ever noticed how when there's not a Doctor within cooee you tend not to get sick? Looking at the photo above you wouldn't want to as it is a long long way to the nearest town! Nevertheless being ill on the road is something to be avoided if at all possible. Happy Hour goes a long way to minimising the chance of sickness as well. If you do get ill, there are adequate medical services in most larger towns - most motoring club maps show towns with medical facilities. Should you be in an isolated area and need urgent assistance there is the Royal Flying Doctor Service to provide care in the outback and this is available to everyone. If you suffer from some life threatening illness or accident, the Air Ambulance service can move you to a place where specialist care is available. Be aware of costs though, so it is important to have ambulance cover either by subscription payable at most Post Offices or in your private medical insurance. The cost of long distance ambulance recovery can be extremely high and mostly there are no alternatives. You also need to check that states you intend visiting have reciprocal arrangements with your own ambulance fund. |
