One other thing that makes your rig tow more smoothly is BALL HEIGHT. In an ideal world the van should run downhill towards your vehicle by about 25mm. If yours doesn't, get another tongue or get your welder out! We made a small adjustment by getting a longer shank ball. ($19) This was a low cost fix. Your fridge also runs better on the move if you get this right. We have always used grease on our balls. Theoretically chrome ones shouldn't need it, but we tried it and found wear marks. A fellow club member remarked that he used polythene film (Glad wrap etc.) Only use BRANDED balls. Now a plea to all you inventors! The first person to come up with a jockey wheel with a built in scale will make an absolute killing! Oh, and while you're at it, how about making it double as a safe jack as well without any increase in weight!
