A'van Tyre Shredding Damage

This is a good example of what can happen if you fail to detect a flat tyre soon enough and the tyre turns into "spaghetti". The damage is not too bad on an A'van as the wheel arches are sensibly made of steel sheet and not plastic as is found on so many vans. We recently saw a motorhome with horrific damage as the tyre smashed up a $200.00 water tank, ate out the wheel arch and damaged the floor extensively. There is a device on the market that detects if a tyre is low and we reviewed it in A-What's New in April 2001. In the case of the motorhome it is doubtful that it would have worked as it was an inner dual wheel that failed so the level would not have dropped much at all.
