Walls Bending in USA Chalets |
| This appears to be an isolated case and we have not heard
of it happening in Australia. We came across this on the A'van/Chalet
board in the USA. The pillow on the sink idea could be something to
think about for A'vanners who venture off the beaten track. The message
follows.
" Another possible source of curved wall is the fact that folded wall is only supported at the apex. After a course of bad road, the bouncing weight of the Chalet window on the driver's side can put a slight bend in the metal edge frame of the wall. The other wall rests partially on the seals of the first, adding to the strain but reducing the bending of the upper folded wall. I've taken to stacking my pillows on the covered sink and stove before folding the walls down to help dampen the bouncing. For severe off road use I would think that a "x" type brace, covered in foam pipe insulation, might be use to span from counter to counter across the middle of the rig and lend support to the middle of the lower folded wall. A'liners won't have as great a problem, as their plastic windows are much lighter, but I like the glass ones." |
