Easy Cure for Roof Panels Interfering

Extreme surface damage after 3 years

The problem is only cosmetic but noticeable

The tape that stops the rubbing

It is quite amazing how many enquiries we get on this simple subject. Thankfully Jeff explained it to us a year or so ago well before we ever came across it in the field. The photos above were taken on an A'van that has done extensive dirt road work behind a 4WD. The owner had no idea that the Teflon strips had been "lost" and asked us if we knew what was causing the ugly erosion marks. The fix is very simple. Pop on four new pieces of Teflon in exactly the same spot they were originally. They are self adhesive so the surface must be very clean and grease/silicone free. We have since been advised by Maarten Van Baardwyck of Queensland Campers that he has the bits in stock and will post them out to anyone who needs them.

What Causes the Problem

There are two sliders near the top of the apex. Sometimes these move a little and then rub on the tapes each time the roof is lowered. They eventually fall off. The sliders are held on by pop rivets hence why over time they can move. If you suspect this problem we suggest you see your dealer. If this is not practical because of distance etc. just get a sharp Stanley Knife and pare a little off the ends of the sliders until they are once again flush or slightly under. Under normal conditions they should not touch the Teflon wear strips either raising or lowering.
