A'van Roof Panels Interfering

A very tricky problem this one, and without the help of A'van assembly manager Scott Van Baardwyck who took the trouble to come all the way up to Brisbane to take a peek, we would never have stood a chance of solving it. A million thanks Scott - much appreciated! You know you have this problem if:-
  • it takes two of you to lower/raise the roof,
  • you get a dirty mark inside on either side of the front windows,
  • you get scraping like marks on the centre Jensen 14 inch vent surround,
  • scraping marks to the left and right of the front curtains on the aluminium,
  • marks on the outside rear roof surface near the middle caused by the vents rubbing.

What has happened is the two upper surfaces of the sliding Teflon plastic pieces used to make the roof slide more easily have come adrift and been lost. These are located on either side of the top apex of the rear roof panel. The photos show a normal van and our problem roof. You do have to have the roof in the almost closed position and lever it apart by hand slightly to see the components. Be careful doing this as you can get your fingers hurt as it is a scissor action. The missing pieces were originally pop riveted on. This repair is possibly best left to your A'van dealer but be aware that not all dealers are aware of this problem as yet. The photos below tell the story and hopefully clearly show you what to look for and adds to the general knowledge data base.

If you continually get this dirty mark on either side you have this problem

If you get this mark just above the left and right front domes you have this problem

If you get scuff marks like these on either side of the
Jensen vent you have this problem
