Electrolux Fan Booster - Jayco |

| This is the most deluxe way we
have ever come across for increasing the cooling efficiency of an Electrolux
fridge. Yes it works fantastically well, but we urge you not to rush out and
copy the idea as there are a few not quite immediately obvious problems. We came across it on a 6 year old Jayco Westport
on an Easter visit to Monee Beach in Northern NSW. The fans are
extremely heavy duty and apparently Telstra "retire" them after a couple of
years of service in those little "fawn" exchanges you see all over the place.
The big problem is that they are 240 volt and emit a quite loud whine. We
discovered them by accident when we went looking for the source of the
noise. The owner had taken a different approach to everyone else including
Electrolux and fitted them at the top. (Electrolux suggest the bottom
internally as supplied in every commercial kit we have ever come across). As there was no room he had to make
an extension cowl from timber. Looking at the close up photo below, you will notice that
no baffle has been fitted as standard by Jayco and there is no insulation around the fridge.
A'van do a fantastic job on fridge installation as the baffle is standard
and they do seal the outside from the inside. Asking the owner why two fans he replied " I'm a Virgo - ones a spare"!
Cracked us right up! Our opinion:- Not a good move this one, as the noise would drive you PLUS YOUR NEIGHBOURS batty and being 240 volt places far too many restrictions on where one can camp, plus you do need to modify the vent extensively. If you like this idea and give it a go we suggest that you use waterproof ply to make the outside cowling. Notice how the one shown has cracked over time. |
