Engel Fridge Conversion

I sold the Electrolux for $750 (they cost $1250 new in Perth). I bought an ENGEL new for $750.  I think it's the 50 litre one, and I think the Electrolux was 55 litres.  Anyway, there is more useable space in the Engel, so the 5 litres less isn't a problem.

POWER:

The Electrolux drew 18 amps continuously from the 12V when I measured it.  The Engel draws less than 3 amps when the compressor is running.  That's probably an average of 1.5 A allowing for a 50% duty cycle.
I added an additional 50 amp-hour deep cycle battery (get a mirror image one to keep the jumper links neat) to allow for 3 days use when not on a powered site. The Engel will automatically switch to 230VAC when you're in a powered site.

SOUND:

The compressor is not silent and may keep you awake.  The TRICK is to install on on/off switch on the 12V line (I used a house door-architrave light switch) close to the fridge and switch it off at bedtime.  It will hold the temp OK overnight if you don't open the door.

DOOR:

The Engel door has the hinge on the right.  This is MUCH better for my
small A'van.  Also, the fridge can be installed a few cm above the floor.  I
recommend you do this because it improves accessibility no end.

WARRANTY

Three year warranty Australia wide.
