Mounting a Hands Free Mobile Phone |
![]() |
| A fellow A'vanner with a Toyota RAV-4 has fitted a rather clever hands free kit. Why we have included it here is the price! It came from Brisbane Car Sound and is a generic model costing just $30.00. Of course there is the usual problem that it only fits Nokia phones, but we all live in hope that one day a standard will emerge so that when we change phones we don't have to start all over. |

| The problem with just about ALL
hands free kits is you must install them in the existing cigarette lighter.
In most cases this is less than satisfactory, as it means the phone ends up
in the middle of the dash and your eyes do leave the road for too long as
you must look down. What Alan has done here is to fit a cigarette lighter
socket into a dummy switch hole. This is not only extremely functional but
looks very good as well. If you are a bit shaky with wiring you can just
plug a lead into the existing lighter socket. The neatest and most efficient
way of course is to hard wire into the existing cigarette lighter socket
with the wires concealed behind the dash.
