This story shows how sometimes buying a well known brand can backfire! The HPM Cable Joiner called a Cordlock is just not a patch on the one Siggy found at a caravan accessory shop. The good one has no loose bits to get easily lost. If you haven't come across these gadgets before they solve quite a few problems and make using extension cables outdoors a lot safer.

They protect the plug/socket from rain etc. and also stop it from pulling apart. There is a downside to this though. If someone trips they could pull the cable right out of you van. The one on the right is 100% better than the very flimsy HPM Cordlock.
