Cleaning Blocked Gas Jets - SMEV Stoves |

| A'van have installed many different
brands of stoves in the A'liner. The most popular has been the Italian made
SMEV. It is a great stove and fairly easy to clean and having
a glass lid lets one make the most of bench space. The only problem we have
come across is the plastic plugs melting if a large fry pan is used. You do
need to watch this as if it gets too severe the lid could fall off. Camec
the distributors will fix this though with no arguments. All stoves eventually get blocked jets resulting in a reduction in heating capacity. You will notice that you don't have flame around the entire perimeter of the burner. The SMEV would have to have the best burner set up we have ever come across! Absolutely brilliant design work! You just don't need any tools to clear a totally blocked burner other than a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the cover. The photos tell it all! We haven't a clue where the grunge comes from in the form of a white powder as shown in the top right photo. Using a nail brush and running water is all that is required to bring your stove back to brand new. |

| WARNING Do not remove the four screws exposed when you lift off the burner. (top left photo) Do not REMOVE the hinge plastic bolts as the nut falls down inside and cannot be retrieved without complete removal of the stove. Please remember that it is ILLEGAL to remove/replace a stove. It is interesting to note that A'van has gone backwards with the present crop of stoves being fitted (not SMEV). Reduced from three burners to two and the automatic lighting feature has "disappeared" which means you go back to using matches - not as safe or convenient. Anyone know why? |
