USA A'liner Bumper Problems |
![]() |
| This happened after a very long journey on miles of rough roads and the van was travelling at 120 kph at the time. The owner feels that it was the unmade roads that caused the problem. Looking closely at the photos it is doubtful if it would ever happen to Australian made A'vans, as the rear chassis is larger and every bumper we have ever seen has an extra gusset welded across the top. Yes we have all seen this fail on units with bike racks fitted to the spare tire, but the bumper is not designed to take that type of load. Chalet on the other hand have allowed for a bike rack in their bumper design which is probably a sound idea as so many of us are taking up that form of exercise. At a recent factory visit Ian Canon told us his pole carrier etc. will never fail as it is all heavy gauge and fully welded. On another subject - Those who have driven in the States will have noticed that they forever run into each other on beautifully made usually straight roads. This why we think this happens. Notice the lights on the A'van above - all lamps are all RED! They don't use amber as per the rest of the world, so people making lane changes etc. just don't stand out. |
