Repairing Stabiliser Legs

A bit about the little pin that holds the thrust bush in the stabiliser leg. One fell out rendering the leg useless. When I got home I just put a split pin through on the other three. I put a bit of tie wire through the pin and wrapped it around the bush, thereby stopping the pin from falling out. All this may sound a bit long, but I have tried to explain it fully.

We will be doing a complete article on repairing stays shortly, as we too have had problems with them breaking. In the meantime we suggest that the pins simply be replaced with a larger one as Brian's temporary fix may fail without warning. The pins are called Sel-Lok Pins and you get them from most bearing supply shops. We get the slightly larger 3/16" diameter ones (50 cents) and drill them out to give more strength and better fit. Try to get UNBRAKO brand as these people invented them and are not Taiwanese junk.  You get the best job by using a 11/64" drill BEFORE the final 3/16". Don't attempt this repair away from home! If you have Extra Care or Plus with your motoring club this repair will be covered by them - we have done it!
