Rural, Rustic and Restful - Maleny Qld and only $7.00 a night! by Therese and Ian Goodwin

The 3 R's epitomize camping at the Maleny Showgrounds. Rural, Rustic and Restful.  We can thank Bob & Chrissy Eustace http://www.around-oz.com for putting us onto this "little gem" camping spot. It was sheer luck and good fortune to have this location just about to ourselves, over the Australia Day Long Weekend.

There is just so much space! Our lovely powered campsite

Relaxed, does not come close to describing how we felt after our short break. We were all "loose as a goose" when we left. We will return for another dose of country air and hospitality very soon.

Obi Obi Creek Comfy seat on the walk

The cost factor did not hurt the back pocket either. $7.00 per night per site, we availed ourselves to electricity, hot and cold showers and town water. The Maleny Showground's abuts the Obi Obi Creek. The rural and tranquil scenic surrounds are just magic.

Is this country or what? Ian and Bo Bo on the boardwalk

Campers who have a four legged travelling companion as we do, this area is indeed a "doggie heaven". There is enough space to let your pooch off the lead, without encroaching on others.

There are also lovely walks. One walk takes you to the Maleny township, along a wooden boardwalk. This particular walk is a visual and an aromatic delight. Definitely not to be missed.

Jack catching the news! Dogs paradise - Jack and Bo Bo

One camper had a delightful companion named "Jack". Jack of course is a Jack Russell Terrier, and indeed is a credit to his breed. Jack is animated, friendly and a good natured dog. Jack took a great liking to Sunny our feathered companion, as the photos show. Ummmm.....a tasty morsel to be had thought Jack!

Yesterday, there was a social tennis match. We sunk a "few tubes" watching the energetic. Jack got into the act too. Running the perimeter of the tennis court trying to keep up with the tennis ball. Jack was no slouch either. The local one day final of the Australia Day Cricket Test was played in the field opposite to where we were camped. We had a "bird's eye view" of the proceedings.

Tennis courts are on site Ian at the barbie!

Yes, that is bacon you can see being cooked on the BBQ. And it was good too.  We hope your Australia Day was as memorable and delightful as we enjoyed.

Directions

Head over the Gateway Bridge from Brisbane and take the Landsborough/Maleny exit. The climb up from Landsborough is quite steep in parts but manageable. Just follow the sign posts to Maleny. Pass through town and look for the showground sign on the left (last street and just past a small servo on the left). The showground is on the left about 1 km down the road (LHS). You can pay at the local newsagents (extremely friendly)
