Glorious Elanda Point

Well we had a wonderful break at Elanda Point. It just went too quickly though. We had a mixed bag of weather. Arrived there on Tuesday under rainy cloudy skies. Fortunately our 30 second camper takes no time to set up. Unlike some poor people there struggling in the rain erecting tents and other types of camper trailers.

We went for a short walk around the grounds and then through those clump of trees which can be seen in the distance on photo number. There is a small stream which feeds off Lake Cootharaba with a bridge to cross. It is very scenic but with the overcast skies the photos did not do the area justice.

As you can see in photo number with Ian on the bridge he is holding a can of Aeroguard. For our overseas friends who are yet to visit Australia. Aeroguard (Mosquito Repellant) goes along with you.

Tuesday was a very hot and humid day even with the rain. That evening a strong breeze came through, which at least keep the mosquitoes on the run.

The rain had cleared overnight and Wednesday was a picture perfect day. Wednesday morning we were awoken to the sound of kangaroos coming down to the lake to drink and splash around. Ian and I were lying in bed just watching the antics. We had breakfast and got ready for our walk. It was to be a 3/4 day return walk to Kinaba Information Centre and some other areas up that way.

We began with rolled short sleeves but about 500 metres into the walk, the mosquitoes attacked in droves. Absolute swarms of them. We were spraying ourselves with the Insect Repellant every couple of hundred metres or so. We were perspiring so much because of the humidity the Aeroguard would not stay on.

After an hour into the walk, we had enough of the wretched mosquitoes and decided to return to the camper and spend the afternoon drinking wine and eating cheese and biscuits. That was certainly a better option than us being made a meal of.

Wednesday night brought a massive electrical storm which went for over 2 hours or more. At least it cooled the evening down.

Thursday was another picture perfect day. We arrived home a tad earlier than we wanted as the car and camper needed a good clean from the dirt and grime off the unsealed roads we travelled.

Hope you enjoy the photos. A shame you could not join us, as it was a great time. The photos will just have to do.

Regards

Ian & Therese Goodwin
