Sharp Park - South East Queensland by Therese & Ian Goodwin

When Ian finished work on Friday afternoon, we took the camper away for the weekend. We had no itinerary in mind, just drive until we found a place to spend the night. Just on sunset we made camp at Canungra. Well, that first night ended up being our second night too. The location was just too good, only to spend the night. Ian has to work tomorrow, otherwise we would have extended our stay for another couple of days.

The location was in one word "Excellent", The bird calls were awesome Whipbirds, Parrots of various species, Kookaburras and even Tawny Frogmouth Owls just mentioning a few. The night sounds were simply brilliant. We were camped beside the Coomera River, so enjoyed the sounds of the night to the fullest.

The weather was picture perfect every day. This camping spot will be visited by us again, in the not too distant future. However, all good things must come to an end. We broke camp and made the journey home this afternoon.

The wheels are in motion planning the next "great escape" already!

Directions

The easiest way to find James Sharp Park is to head to Beenleigh. Take the road to Beaudesert out of Beenleigh until you come to the Canungra turnoff on the left. This is also marked O'Reillys Guest House. About 9 kms down this road you will see Sharp Park on the right. Roads are all bitumen and average towing. If coming from the south it is still best to travel via Beenleigh otherwise you will have to travel roads that are marked "Not Suitable for Caravans". The A'van towed by a 4WD can handle these, but it is easiest via Beenleigh. Nearest supplies in Canungra about 5 kms - excellent bakery! Sharp Park is used as an overflow area when Binnaburra etc. is totally full particularly in winter. There is a small fee around $4.00 per person. Bring drinking water. Amenities include flushing toilets, caretaker usually onsite, BBQ's, covered tables, lots of shade and lovely grassy sites. Dogs allowed on leash.
