Mount Archer Adventure - Queensland

Let the Mount Archer Adventure begin!!

The campground of Mount Archer Adventures is located just north of Brisbane and west of Caboolture. (75 kms) It is set in the foothills of Mount Archer as the name suggests. Our camping experience at Mount Archer came about when a few families decided to go camping at Easter 2001. Having left it to the last minute to book we were told Mount Archer Adventure camping would have vacancies. We rang and booked and a few families became several - in total we had 31 in our group (with children ranging in age from 3 to 13) not to mention 3 dogs as well. The camping area is quite large and separated into nine different sections. It caters for campers with horses and dogs, as well as offering choices in location of being near the creek or having a mountain top view. Our group all camped together along the fence line backing onto the creek.

Who is rounding up who?

Neurum Creek is very peaceful

The highlight from the children's point of view, was that it was safe enough for them to go off on their own and explore without parental supervision. They discovered a creek area, where the boys built shelters, found firewood and painted themselves in mud. The girls meanwhile built fairy gardens, paddled in the water and also covered themselves in mud. For the more adventurous an impromptu water slide into the creek proved lots of fun. The creek was ideal for paddling our canoe and swimming the dogs.

Neurum Creek is very scenic & canoe friendly

The adults in our group were less adventurous (or more into relaxing whichever way you look at it). We spent our days sitting around drinking tea and coffee and our nights around the campfire drinking wine. Some of us did go for a pleasant stroll around one of the tracks, but decided our key objective was to relax and do as little as possible.

Before we booked we were warned that the campsite was simply an open paddock which at some stages has cattle roaming around. We were a little apprehensive - thank goodness there weren't any cattle in the immediate camping area, but there was some evidence that they had been there in the not too distant past!!

The Sound of Music?

One of two very modern amenities

The facilities - (always an important feature when camping). The toilets were the self composting pit variety and were on the nose by the end of the day. The showers were always lovely and hot which is an added bonus in the cooler weather. Our complaints were that the facilities were so far away that anyone with little children found it quite a hike to get there on time! Also the queue for the showers was quite long around 6 o'clock each evening.

Although Easter was a relatively busy time there was still enough space to be away from most other campers and to sit back and relax, or be energetic and enthusiastic as your mind took you.
